Jack Rutter will be the headline performer in a concert on Sunday February 23 at 7.30pm at St Saviour’s Church Hall, 25 Sandpit Lane, St Albans AL1 4DF. Support will be provided by New Roots 2024 finalist Amy Gill.
Yorkshire folk singer Jack Rutter has established himself as one of the standout voices of the folk, roots and acoustic music scene in recent years. A hugely engaging stage presence, his soaring vocal, powerhouse guitar and bouzouki playing and masterful arrangements of traditional songs and contemporary covers have enthralled audiences from the largest festival main stages to the most intimate folk clubs.
His critically acclaimed third album This Is Some-thing Constant, was released in 2024. . Jack said that the album’s title is about the longevity and lasting truth of folk songs. It was a compelling and spellbinding showcase of gripping story ballads and upbeat festival-stage firecrackers, perfectly pitched and delivered with soaring, crystal clear vocals that breathe new life into ancient tales.
Described as ‘a leading light of the Oxford folk scene’. New Roots 2024 finalist Amy Gill is a traditional singer and flute player, focussing particularly on the songs and Morris tunes of the Cotswolds. She has built up an extensive repertoire of songs from her native Oxfordshire and beyond, singing for the most part unaccompanied. Occasionally intertwining flute and voice to create lively arrangements, she hopes to tell old stories from voices less often heard. A keen dancer and dance caller, she also plays for Morris and social dancing.
