The members of the St Albans Symphony Orchestra are deeply saddened by the loss of Tom Hammond, our Principal Conductor, who died suddenly at home on Monday 27th December 2021. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him. The process of recruiting a successor to Tom will commence presently.

We feel certain that Tom would have wanted us to carry on as planned, so are very pleased that Bill Carslake has stepped-in to conduct our next concert, on Saturday 12th March, at 7.30pm, in St Saviour’s Church (Sandpit Lane, St Albans AL1 4DF).

This concert was originally scheduled for the 2020-2021 season, but was delayed by the pandemic. We commemorate the centenary of the birth of Malcolm Arnold, one of Britain’s greatest 20th century composers.

The programme includes Malcolm Arnold’s 5th Symphony, and we are delighted to welcome Mark van der Wiel as soloist in Arnold’s Clarinet Concerto No.2. After the interval the concert will close with Brahms’ wonderful 3rd Symphony.

Tickets are available via, by calling 01525 862097 or 07976 800445, or by initially emailing Prices are £18 (nave), £13 (aisle), £5 (under 18s), £2 for accompanied children.
