St Paul’s Church, Fleetville, is holding a ‘Repair Fair’ with ‘fixers’ on hand to repair portable electrical appliances and household clothing and fabrics that might otherwise be thrown away.
The team will be in action at the Blandford Road church on Saturday October 7th from 2pm to 5pm, offering a free repair service. Refreshments will also be served.
Local people are invited to bring along their faulty electrical items and their clothing and fabrics in need of minor alterations or repairs. The team of keen amateurs will do their best to repair the items or offer advice.
They will also involve the owner in the diagnosis and repair so that they can learn through the experience. To this end, drop-off and pick up later will be discouraged.
St Paul’s is organising the Repair Fair as part of its concern for the environment. It is working with St Albans District Fixers – part of Sustainable St Albans – who have already saved hundreds of kilograms from going to landfill or incineration, and averting an estimated 2.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the manufacture of replacement items.
A booking system for the event is being run at: https://sustainablestalbans.org/event/repair-fair-at-st-pauls-church-st-albans-2 or people can phone the church on 01727 846281.
