More about: Drama, Festival, Local Events, Music, Theatre, Things to do in Hertfordshire
Dear Mix92.6
We’re writing to you today from AMA Theatre Co, a dynamic husband-and-wife micro theatre company based right here in Letchworth. We’re thrilled to be bringing a fantastic lineup of family fun and thought-provoking theatre to audiences across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire this summer, and we’d be incredibly grateful if you could help us spread the word!
As an unfunded, non-profit company, all of our fees go directly back into financing ongoing projects for the community. We’ve been busy since lockdown, when we transformed our lounge into a broadcasting studio, and have expanded our offerings to include a diverse range of shows, plays, educational workshops, and corporate events, with a particular focus on our local area.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’re bringing to the stage this summer:
“Resurrection, The Stage Musical” to Bedford Fringe, Watford Fringe and Watford Fringe Festivals
Resurrection, the Stage Musical is based on the first novel in The Buccaneers Trilogy, this captivating show will run at The Quarry Theatre, Bedford on 25th and 26th July, The Metropolitan in Bushey on 29th July and Wanstead from 11th to 13th September
Resurrection tells the extraordinary story of four historical pirates who are inexplicably reborn off the coast of modern-day Scotland after a fierce storm. Initially without their memories, they gradually recall their tumultuous lives before piracy, leading to a profound sense of empathy. Witnessing contemporary humanity, they are shocked by the prevalence of devastating wars, populism, greed, and animosity—issues they find even worse than in their own time. Deeply affected by both their past memories and present observations, they decide to become a force for good, fighting injustice and giving a voice to the voiceless.
The production sensitively explores contemporary issues through these historical figures, such as John Rackham’s bipolar disorder and Mary Read’s identity struggles from being forced to live as a male at a young age. The musical features reimagined popular Irish and Celtic folk songs that narrate their traumatic pasts, including the abuse and mental conditions that led them to piracy. Throughout the show, the stage spectacularly transforms into the deck of a pirate ship, enhancing the visual appeal for audiences.
AMA Theatre’s primary aim is to encourage more people to embrace the wonders of live entertainment. “Today, we are very conscious that ticket prices for larger shows can be extremely restrictive,” say the producers. “That is why we always make our shows very visual and appealing to general audiences at affordable prices.” As a non-profit endeavour, all proceeds from ticket sales, booking fees, novel sales, and a recently released album of the show’s songs are reinvested into future productions, making theatre accessible and engaging for everyone.
