St Albans Symphony Orchestra
More about: Music
The biennial St Albans St Cecilia Festival concert, delayed for a year by the pandemic, returns to St Albans Cathedral on Saturday the 15th of October 2022 (7:30 p.m.).
The St Albans Symphony Orchestra will give the world première of Heartwood Wilding, a work commissioned for their 90th anniversary (2021). Composer James Francis Brown was inspired by the ‘wilding’ of Heartwood Forest, near St Albans. James will conduct his work which he describes as ‘a symphonic poem for large orchestra’.
The Woodland Trust created and manages Heartwood Forest, and will be the beneficiary of the retiring collection.
The orchestra and 4 local choirs will be joined by world-class soloists – soprano Inna Husieva, tenor Christopher Turner, and bass baritone Emyr Wyn Jones, in a performance of Joseph Haydn’s monumental oratorio The Creation*, led by conductor John Gibbons.
