The St Albans Symphony Orchestra (SASO) returns to the magnificent setting of the St Albans Cathedral with a programme of orchestral and choral works that will make the most of the Cathedral’s acoustics and organ.

SASO will be joined by the vocal group Gloriana, and by soprano Jessica Cale.

Gloriana will open the concert at 7:30 p.m. with Poulenc’s a cappella Ave verum corpus, the setting of a Eucharistic chant.

The orchestra will then play Debussy’s evocative Nocturnes, joined by the voices of Gloriana in the last of the three movements.

Jessica Cale will then join the orchestra for Chants d’Auvergne, folk songs from the Auvergne region, arranged by Joseph Canteloube.

After the interval the singers of Gloriana will be accompanied by the cathedral organ in Cantique de Jean Racine, by Gabriel Fauré.

The evening will finish with Camille Saint-Saëns’ flamboyant Symphony No.3, the Organ Symphony, unleashing the full power of the 4,500 pipe organ.

Tickets are £30, £24, £18 (reserved), £8 (unreserved, restricted view), student: £5, accompanied child: £5, available from the Cathedral box office: 01727 890290, or visit:,,
