Bells at St Stephen’s church, St Albans will sound out a warning about climate change on Saturday evening November 5 at 5pm. St Stephen’s ringers will be taking part in a national initiative on the eve of the COP 27 conference in Egypt and this will involve bellringers all over the country
The ringing of bells is usually associated with calls to church services and with national celebrations or mourning, but there have been times when they were designated as a means of warning against possible invasions, for example by Hitler or Napoleon. This Saturday, they will be rung as a warning against the threat of global warming.
