The St Albans Branch of the Locomotive Club of Great Britain (LCGB) presents an illustrated railway talk entitled ‘Edward Thompson, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway‘. The presenter for the illustrated talk will be Simon Martin. Edward Thompson was the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) from 1941 to 1946 and succeeded Sir Nigel Gresley (designer of ‘Flying Scotsman’) in this role. Mr Martin will describe Edward Thompson’s life and his work on the LNER at a difficult and challenging time. All are welcome to the event, where free car parking and half-time refreshments will be available.
