Local author, Jane Dismore was Elly’s final guest of the day on Tuesday’s Mix Mornings and she certainly didn’t disappoint! A freelance writer of history & heritage and a biographer, Jane found out about Lady Dorothy Mills when researching another project. Dorothy (Dolly) was a trailblazer, whose larger than life personality led her to extraordinary adventures. She forged a reputation as one of the most renowned explorers in West Africa, territories often considered the preserve of men! She broke the mould by challenging the expectations of her gender.
She was famous in her day (back in the 1930’s) but over the years her story has been forgotten. Well, WAS forgotten, until Jane Dismore happened upon it, and couldn’t resist doing the heavy lifting research and writing the book No Country for A Woman. The Adventurous life of Lady Dorothy Mills. Tune in to find out more!
The book is published on 20th March 2025 and will be available via all the usual means.
