Thin Places – St Albans Am Dram goes to the Camden Fringe.

Mix Mornings with Emma Lovell

Edinburgh isn’t the only place with a brilliant fringe – for Hertfordshire residents, Camden is quite a bit closer and boasts hundreds of events, taking in everything from stand-up sets and experimental theatre to kids’ shows, dance, and even magic. This year, the Camden Fringe features a new production by St Albans – based playwright, Mial Pagan. Thin Places is a contemporary drama set in a village in Northern Ireland, exploring complex themes of exile and the poignant, often difficult, return to one’s roots. Eugene Gillan comes back from the trading floors of the City of London with a guilty secret. He tries to hide in a nostalgic view of life where he grew up, where his first love still lives but finds that all has changed. Ultimately he and his fellow villagers are compelled to face harsh truths exposed by fault lines of memory, identity and time.

Iain Pritchard went to a rehearsal of the play and spoke to Mial about the production and what audiences can expect at the performance.
