One of the delights of the English summer is to see those supreme aviators, swifts, once again in action above our heads.
Sadly with our houses becoming a bit less ramshackle they are increasingly homeless and their numbers have halved since 1995.
Last week was Swift Awareness Week, and in this week’s Environment Matters podcast we’ll hear not just about what’s being done locally to help swifts, but why a study from Dr Dion Garrett at Rothamsted Research suggests that reducing swift numbers aren’t just bad news for bird watchers, but for farmers too.
