The Scottish Ale – A Nick Allen Mystery.

Part of the “Tales from The Mermaid” Collection

Local author Allen Nicklin has been busy in lockdown writing some fabulous short stories based on his experiences in St Albans.

Author of “Winning The Benevolent Cup and Reaching First Base” and “Nick Allen and The Lost Boy” Big Al (as he is known locally) writes cracking mysteries with many references to St Albans. He is a loyal listener to Radio Verulam and has even had a roundabout named after him by our very own Lady Jen – Big Al’s Batchwood Roudnabout often features in the traffic updates!

His fitness group Fellas Fitness St Albans have bought a brick in our clock tower wall to show their support for community radio and he introduced Good Morning St Albans presenter Kerry Cobb to the delights of the St Albans Whisky Club after they met in The Mermaid.

It’s The Mermaid that features in this latest story, one that Kerry decided to voice as she enjoyed it so much and agreed with Big Al that it fitted in nicely to our coverage of the Virtual St Albans Food & Drink Festival.

Proceed with caution, pub talk, ghosts, dreadful Scottish accents and adult themes in this glorious romp through history, real ales and our fabulous city!
