To celebrate World Piano Day on 29th March (the 88th day of the year to match the 88 keys on a piano), we turn to our piano experts in Hertfordshire for advice on lessons and learning, choosing a piano and even delve into piano ‘street art’

Vivien is joined by Katie Fenner from Musicale in Harpenden who tells her about the range of activities and courses for children aged 4-upwards, instrument choice and hire and their amazing facilties. Even adults can take advantage of the facilities, with their oldest student to date being 94 – you’re never too old to learn!

Then, Rupert Frost from Richard Reason pianos in Hitchin talks us through choosing a piano – it’s not as simple as just picking one from a catalogue online! Where you put it in your house, ambient conditions and style all play a part.

Finally, Luke Jerram tells Vivien about the ‘Play me, I’m yours’ piano donation scheme. Luke is an artist who’s project has reached millions of people worldwide, with more than 2000 street pianos being installed by Luke and his team in over 70 cities across the globe from Tokyo to New York, bearing the simple instruction to ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’. Luke was also responsible for the amazing ‘Moon’ installation at St Albans cathedral recently.

That’s this Thursday at 7pm and Sunday at 8pm on 92.6FM, DAB+, online at mix926.com and on your smart speaker.

The Parents’ Show is sponsored by Rayden Solicitors.
