Hitchin Chamber Orchestra will be celebrating ‘Musical Prodigies’ in our forthcoming summer concert as part of Hitchin Festival.  We are looking forward to welcoming back Callum Smart as our soloist to play one of Mendelssohn’s earliest compositions – his Concerto in D minor for Violin and String Orchestra, written when he was just 13 years old – the same age that our illustrious soloist won the strings category of the BBC Young Musician of the year!  This concerto was written some 22 years before Mendelssohn’s ‘other’, more famous E minor concerto, but already reveals the prodigious talent of the budding composer.

The programme also includes works by more readily known prodigies, Mozart and Rossini, as well as Coleridge-Taylor and William Lloyd Webber (father of Andrew and Julian).

David Murphy will be back to conduct us again.  We hope to see you on Saturday 6th July at 7:30pm in St Mary’s Church, Hitchin.

Tickets are available at Hitchin Initiative or online through Eventbrite.
