Local elections are scheduled to take place in our broadcast area on Thursday 2 May.
- Elections for the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner will take place throughout the whole district.
- District Council elections will also take place, except in the district wards of Colney Heath and Redbourn.
This has an impact on what we can and cannot do. It is quite complicated and the full details can be found by clicking the links at the end of this message.
THIS APPLIES FROM 26 MARCH 2024 UNTIL POLLS CLOSE ON 2 MAY
Programmes with a clear political message or where a local politician, policy maker, or a representative takes part must be carefully monitored to ensure fairness and balance. If in doubt, please check with me.
Candidates in UK elections, and representatives of permitted participants in UK referendums, must not act as news presenters, interviewers or presenters of any type of programme during the election period. If this impacts YOU, please tell ME.
You should avoid covering issues which form part of political campaigns unless you have discussed it with me or Nick in advance so it can be planned properly.
For example, if you wanted to cover an item about cutting public transport funding and one party is using this as a campaigning point, we must also invite other candidates to take part. Failure to do so is serious – so let’s plan carefully.
On Election Day you must not mention what is happening; this includes encouraging people to go and vote, or similar. The news will deal with this for us. Ignore it and pretend it isn’t happening.
