This week, The Parents’ Show is focussing on the issue of news and how we can help our young people navigate through fake news to discover real journalism in action. We dip intothe archives to hear again these important interviews, more relevant than ever today.
First, Lydia speaks to Dr Aralynn McMane, founding Executive Director at Global Youth & News Media, about how our children can be guided to source news through reputable outlets and not rely totally on social media, where news is a mixture of both accurate and invented stories.
Dr McMane tells parents where they can find news outlets specifically for young people.
In the second part, Lydia catches up with Olivier Cauberghs from Textgain about the Safer Internet Day which took place in March of this year.
Based in Belgium, Textgain use AI to find and flag problems with all sorts of internet issues such as fake news, hate speech and general harmful content. Olivier guides Lydia through some of the things parents can do to help protect their children to be safer online and in the world in general.
That’s this Thursday at 7pm on 92.6FM, online at mix926.com and on your smartspeaker.
The Parents’ Show is sponsored by Rayden Solicitors.
