Hertfordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes
Connecting with inspiring women, make meaningful community impact, gain new skills and confidence together

Nestled in the heart of the county, the Hertfordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes (HFWI) is a vibrant network of 70 local WIs, bringing together nearly 3,000 members from all walks of life. Established in 1919, it has grown into a dynamic force for friendship, learning, and community action.
What makes HFWI special is its blend of tradition and innovation. While it honours the legacy of the WI movement, it also embraces modern interests—from digital skills and public affairs to arts, crafts, and wellbeing. Monthly meetings and county-wide events offer members opportunities to connect, grow, and contribute, whether through literary lunches, repair-and-reuse workshops, or sports taster days.
At its core, HFWI is about empowering women—creating spaces where voices are heard, talents are nurtured, and communities are strengthened. With its headquarters in Wheathampstead and a warm, inclusive ethos, it continues to be a cornerstone of Hertfordshire’s civic and cultural life for women.
